India's talismanic batter Virat Kohli had a forgettable outing in the first Test against New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In Shubman Gill's absence, India promoted Kohli up the order, asking him to bat at number three following Rohit Sharma's departure.

However, unfortunately for the hosts, Kohli perished for a nine-ball duck, leaving his team and fans in tatters. The legendary batter thus attained an infamous batting feat, becoming the batter with the third most ducks for India in international cricket.

Legendary speedster Zaheer Khan tops the chart with 43 ducks in 227 international innings. He is followed by his fast-bowling disciple Ishant Sharma, who has 40 scores of zero in 173 innings. Kohli eclipsed former spin bowler Harbhajan Singh on the list, taking his ducks' tally to 38 following his disastrous outing in Bengaluru.

Interestingly, Kohli is the only specialist batter among the top five names, with Harbhajan and Anil Kumble claiming the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

India's Abysmal Batting Performance In Bengaluru Test

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India had a shaky start to their innings, losing skipper Rohit Sharma for two runs. Kohli managed a nine-ball duck, while youngster Sarfaraz Khan threw his wicket with a poor shot.

Although Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to breach the two-digit mark, the abysmal returns from KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin led to the hosts' batting collapse on a seam-friendly deck. At the time of writing, India were tottering at 46 for nine, with Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj batting on two and four, respectively.
