As day four of the first Test match between India and New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, reached its midway point, India’s incredible comeback narrative was momentarily halted by rain. The weather has taken center stage after a stirring session of cricket, with Sarfaraz Khan’s maiden Test century and Rishabh Pant's breezy half-century bringing India close to erasing the massive first-innings deficit.

At lunch, India stood at 344/3 , just 12 runs behind New Zealand's first-innings lead of 356. Sarfaraz Khan is unbeaten on 125, while Pant is on 53. The pair added 113 runs together, frustrating the New Zealand bowlers who struggled to make breakthroughs in the morning session.

Weather Adds Drama To India's Comeback

The morning session saw light drizzle in Bengaluru, and the umpires eventually called for the covers, signalling an early lunch break. With India seemingly gaining momentum and the Kiwis under pressure, the rain provided New Zealand a much-needed breather.

If the rain clears as expected by 12 PM IST, the match will likely resume with India poised to overtake New Zealand's lead and set the stage for a thrilling final day. However, New Zealand will be hoping the overcast conditions allow their bowlers to extract swing and reverse India’s charge. A few quick wickets could turn the tide in New Zealand’s favor, but for now, India holds the upper hand.

The forecast for the day at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, looks relatively optimistic, with a 25% chance of rain and a mostly cloudy sky expected throughout. Although the rain is likely to subside soon, the overcast conditions are likely to persist, which could prove beneficial for New Zealand’s fast bowlers in the afternoon session. The heavy cloud cover (100%) means the ball could move in the air, giving pacers an opportunity to make life difficult for the Indian players.

UPDATE: It is raining heavily in Bengaluru. Looks like we are in for a longer delay.
