Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is about to be fired as men’s director of cricket of the Delhi Capitals franchise, at least, as per the recent circulating rumors. The Capitals has already announced ex-Indian all-rounder Venugopal Rao as their new director of cricket as part of a major backroom revamp within the franchise, which also saw Ricky Ponting being replaced by Hemang Badani as the new head coach.

Amidst Ganguly’s axing rumors, here we examine if the former Indian cricketer will be attending the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction for the franchise.

Will Sourav Ganguly attend IPL 2025 mega auction?

In a stunning revelation on October 17 amidst Sourav Ganguly’s axing rumors, Delhi Capitals’ co-owner JSW Sports confirmed that the former Indian captain has been appointed as their overall Director of Cricket instead.

Ganguly’s newfound role will see him spearheading all cricketing properties owned by the JSW Group, including the men’s and women’s team of Delhi Capitals, as well as the Pretoria Capitals from South African-based SA20.

Amidst Sourav Ganguly’s ascension within the JSW Sports group, it should not come as a surprise if the former Indian captain will be spotted attending the IPL 2025 mega auction later this year for the Delhi Capitals.

Upon making Ganguly the overall director of cricket, JSW founder Parth Jindal claimed that the ex-Indian captain has always held a special place at JSW Sports. Jindal even described Ganguly as “one of the sharpest brains” of the game, and he expressed his delight in continuing the franchise’s association with the legendary Indian cricketer.

Meanwhile, several recent reports indicate that the IPL 2025 mega auction will be organized either in late-November or early-December this year. It remains to be seen what strategies will Delhi Capitals management carry into the auction. As reported a couple of days ago, the franchise is likely looking to replace Rishabh Pant as team captain.
