Harmanpreet Kaur was criticised for her and team's performance in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup, however, the India skipper silenced her critics in style with a majestic fifty in a must-win clash against Sri Lanka women at the Dubai Stadium.

When she came out to bat, India needed a momentum change as they were targeting in excess of 150. The India skipper played arguably her best T20I knock till date as she helped India gain the momentum in this crucial World Cup clash.

Openers, Harmanpreet Kaur take India to winning total

After electing to bat first, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma laid the foundation for a big total. The duo started cuatiously on a tricky surface, but once the dust settled in, the duo took the attack to the opposition, and made a mockery of the Lankan bowling attack.

Once both Mandhana and Shafali departed, Harmanpreet took matters in her own hands and became the chief aggressor. Alongside Jemimah Rodrigues, she played some blinders and utilised the gaps to perfection. In the last over, she needed 6 runs to complete her fifty, and the skipper finished it off in style, hitting two consecutive boundaries to reach the landmark in 27-balls.

India dominate proceedings with the ball

Defending a solid total, India knew they had to win by a big margin, and the bowlers have started on the front-foot. Sri Lanka have already lost 3-wickets as the Asia Cup champions look a pale shadow of their former self.

Chasing 173, Sri Lankan batters looked clueless and India picked up wickets inside the first three overs to stun the opposition. The Indian side gave a big jolt when they dismissed Sri Lanka's star batter, Chamari Athapaththu for a low-score. A big win and India will jump to the second position in the points table, just behind Australia.
