Pakistan finally broke their long-standing winless streak at home with a commanding 152-run victory over England in the second Test in Multan today (October 18). This win marks Pakistan's first Test triumph on home soil since February 2021 and the first under captain Shan Masood.

The victory also comes after wholesale changes in the squad following a heavy defeat in the series opener, as Pakistan's newcomers rose to the occasion.

PAK VS ENG: Quick Recap Of 2nd Test Match

Debutant Kamran Ghulam, was the star of Pakistan’s batting lineup, as he scored a gritty 118 from 224 balls, which propelled the hosts to a first-innings total of 366 on a worn Multan surface. England, in response, started strongly and were cruising at 211-2 on the second day, with Ben Duckett and Joe Root looking comfortable at the crease.

However, Pakistan's Sajid Khan, making a comeback to the side, triggered a dramatic England collapse. His remarkable seven-wicket haul restricted the visitors to 291, and gave Pakistan a valuable 75-run lead after the first innings.

In their second innings, Pakistan managed 221 runs, setting England a challenging target of 297 on a deteriorating pitch that had shown signs of significant wear and tear. England's batting lineup struggled under pressure, particularly against Pakistan’s spinners, who found sharp turn and bounce on the worn Multan track.

Left-arm spinner Noman Ali was the chief destroyer, as he scalped career-best figures of 8/46, as he and Sajid dismantled England for just 144 runs.

Noman and Sajid's relentless bowling effort secured Pakistan a memorable 152-run victory, ending their joint-longest streak without a home Test win and improving their standing in the World Test Championship (WTC) rankings.

Pakistan, who had won just two of their previous nine Tests in the current WTC cycle, now move from the bottom of the table to eighth place, with a points percentage (PCT) rising from 16.67% to 25.92%. On the other hand, England, despite the defeat, remain in fourth place in the WTC standings, though their PCT has slipped from 45.59% to 43.06%.

The victory marks a turning point for Pakistan after a difficult period. This win in Multan brings renewed hope for Pakistan cricket, ending a three-year drought at home and setting a positive tone for the remainder of their Test season.
