Just days after India captain Rohit Sharma expressed concerns about Mohammed Shami's fitness for the upcoming tour of Australia, the veteran pacer has been seen bowling at full tilt during a practice session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

He has been out of action since India's defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, and now is pushing hard to regain full fitness  for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia.

His absence from the team has been primarily due to a series of injuries, most notably an Achilles tendon surgery. Additionally, he suffered an injury scare during his rehabilitation, further delaying his return. Shami has been working diligently at the NCA in Bengaluru, having missed months of cricket following knee surgery and other complications.

Mohammed Shami's Fiery Net Session

According to a report by RevSportz, Mohammed Shami was spotted bowling in the nets at the Bengaluru stadium. Pictures captured the pacer with his knee bandaged and strapped, starting with a slower pace and a shorter run-up before gradually working up to bowling at close to full speed. This intense session marked his continued progress at the NCA, where he has been focusing on rehab and recovery.

The sight of Shami bowling again is a significant boost for India’s pace attack, particularly with a challenging tour of Australia on the horizon. Many had expected Shami to be picked for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, but the selectors opted to give him more time to recover. Australia appears to be his target for a comeback, and his form and fitness could prove crucial for India.

Rohit Sharma Updates On Mohammed Shami's Injury

Rohit Sharma had addressed Shami’s recovery earlier in the week, and stated that while Shami was progressing, inflammation in his knee raised doubts about his availability. He has been out of competitive action since his appearance in the World Cup final against Australia last year, and his last Test match was during India’s loss in the World Test Championship final at The Oval in 2023.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy looming, the cricketing world will be watching closely to see if Shami can complete his comeback and lead India’s pace attack in what promises to be a thrilling contest Down Under.
