In another devastating blow for Tayla Vlaeminck, the Australian and Melbourne Renegades fast bowler has been ruled out of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for the third consecutive season. The 25-year-old dislocated her bowling shoulder during Australia’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan Women.

Tayla Vlaeminck To Miss WBBL 2024 Season

Vlaeminck’s injury occurred just moments into her first appearance at a major international tournament since 2018. Following the dislocation, she was ruled out for the remainder of the T20 World Cup. On Friday, the Melbourne Renegades confirmed that she would also miss the upcoming WBBL season, which starts next Sunday.

The luckless fast bowler has not featured in the WBBL since November 2021, when she played for the Hobart Hurricanes. Vlaeminck had signed with the Melbourne Renegades ahead of the 2022-23 season but has yet to make her debut for the team due to her ongoing injury setbacks.

She has now dislocated her left shoulder twice in her career. The first incident occurred while playing for Victoria during the 2017-18 domestic season.

She then dislocated the same shoulder again while bowling during the Australia A tour of England in 2023, which ran parallel to the Women’s Ashes series. The second injury required corrective surgery, but her latest setback means her return to competitive cricket will be delayed once more.

Series Of Injuries For Tayla Vlaeminck

Unfortunately, injuries have plagued Tayla Vlaeminck throughout her career. Before making her international debut for Australia in 2018, she had already undergone two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions. Foot injuries also forced her to miss several major tournaments, including the 2020 T20 World Cup held on home soil, the 2022 ODI World Cup, the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and the 2023 T20 World Cup.

Her absence is a significant loss for the Renegades, who had hoped to benefit from her express pace in their campaign. The Renegades will now look to restructure their bowling attack for the upcoming WBBL season.
