In the latest development, with the IPL 2025 mega auction on the horizon, anticipation is mounting as the BCCI unveiled the retention guidelines and hinted at a possible venue change last week.

According to the reports of Cricbuzz, Dubai has previously hosted last season’s auction, and for this year, the BCCI is reportedly considering new options. The capital city of Riyadh and the port city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia are under consideration for hosting the auction.

Why Is London Not Considered To Host Mega Auction For IPL 2025?

Saudi Arabia’s potential to host the auction comes with a steeper financial commitment, but BCCI officials see the benefits as outweighing the costs. The report also mentioned that London was initially considered, but logistical challenges and unfavourable winter conditions in late November ruled it out.

So, Dubai remains an option, but insiders report that the BCCI is leaning towards Saudi Arabia, seeing it as a fresh and lucrative avenue for expanding the IPL's reach into new markets.

As fans await the official confirmation of the auction venue and date, all eyes will be on the BCCI's final decision. Whether the event is held in Dubai, Riyadh, or Jeddah, the IPL 2025 mega auction promises to be a landmark event.

IPL 2025 Retention Rules

Franchises have been informed that they can retain up to six players each, and the Right-To-Match (RTM) option will once again be part of the retention process. As per the retention policy, teams will allocate Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore, and Rs 11 crore for their first, second, and third retention choices, respectively.

The deadline for player registrations for the auction is on October 31, giving teams ample time to strategize and plan their rosters before the marquee event.

Another new rule added this year is that a capped Indian player will become uncapped if the player has in the last five calendar years preceding the year in which the relevant Season is held, not played any International Cricket (Test match, ODI, T20I) or does not have a Central Contract with BCCI. This will be applicable for Indian Players only.

As the IPL grows in stature and continues to attract top global talent, the auction will be a crucial event, enabling franchises to build balanced teams for the upcoming season.
