Pakistan cricket fans were left surprised as star batter Imam-ul-Haq, a staple in the national squad for several years, found himself out of favour in the recent times. The decision to exclude him reportedly stems from allegations that he leaked sensitive team information to the media.

Why Is Imam-ul-Haq Getting Ignored By Pakistan Selectors?

According to the reports of Cricket Pakistan, Imam-ul-Haq's removal from the national team is linked to an internal report submitted by former team director Mohammad Hafeez, which suggests that Imam had been divulging confidential team matters. 

It is worth mentioning, he last donned the Pakistan jersey in November 2023, when he played in the Test series against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In that series, he scored had a poor outing with the bat as he managed to score 10 and 12 in his two innings. Since then, PCB has shifted to Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique as the openers for the team. 

Imam-ul-Haq's Solid Domestic Season 

Despite the controversy, Imam has made a solid case for his comeback. The 28-year-old has shown impressive form in domestic cricket. He scored three consecutive centuries for the Lions in Pakistan’s Champions One-Day Cup. His recent performances have selectors alike of his potential and skill and put pressure on the board to reconsider his exclusion, especially as Pakistan has struggled in Test cricket since his departure.

Pakistan's recent Test series loss to Bangladesh on home soil highlighted issues within the team, and their current ongoing series against England has gotten off to a rocky start with a loss in the first Test at Multan. The second Test, beginning on October 15, presents a crucial opportunity for Pakistan to bounce back. 

As the team faces criticism for its poor form, many analysts are calling for changes in the squad, with some advocating for Imam’s return based on his domestic success.
