Nitish Kumar Reddy is the next breakout star of Indian cricket, alongside Mayank Yadav. The SRH all-rounder had a memorable IPL campaign and was fast-tracked in the Indian side by the national selectors, something which caught the attention of cricket pundits.

The youngster is often touted as the successor of Hardik Pandya in international cricket, mainly due to his ability to contribute with the bat as well as bowl at decent pace. He made his debut in the first T20I vs Bangladesh on Sunday, and made it memorable by staying not-out in the run-chase.

Should Nitish Kumar be in the BGT squad? Here's the answer

He looked calm and composed in the middle, which is a sign of greatness, especially when you are playing for India for the first time. Some even believe that Nitish Kumar is ready for Test cricket and should be included in the India squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, next month.

Despite the positive noise increasing, former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra has a different take on his inclusion in the BGT squad. Speaking to CREX, Chopra stated that even though Nitish Kumar has done well recently, there is still room for improvement.

"The Indian selectors want to include Nitish Kumar Reddy in the India squad for the Border-Gavaskar series. He did really well in the Duleep Trophy and has the ability to play at the highest level. Moreover, he is a really good batter, and as a result, there is a bit of temptation within the selectors to include him in the Test side.

He has already been fast-tracked, as he received his international cap on Sunday. However, Test cricket is a different gravy and looking at the Australian tour, it feels Nitish Kumar will be slightly undercooked. On Australian conditions, experience is the key, and we have seen before that many experience cricketers fail on the Aussie shores, hence, the Australian tour will be a bit too early for him."

Nitish Kumar Reddy's rise to the top!

Nitish's talent was spotted by SRH skipper, Pat Cummins, and the Aussie cricketer decided to include him in the playing XI, and the rest, as they say, is history.

He was outstanding with the bat and played some match-winning innings. Nitish Kumar showed a calm and composed nature during IPL 2024, a trait which is vital in Test cricket. The all-rounder played 13 matches in IPL 2024, and was outstanding with the bat, scoring 303 runs, at a strike-rate of 142, including two fifties.
