In the ongoing first Test between Pakistan and England in Multan on October 8, England faced a challenging situation early on Day 2. After Pakistan posted a massive 556 runs in their first innings, England’s openers, Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley, took to the crease with hopes of giving their team a solid start. However, their plans were disrupted quickly.

Ollie Pope, England’s captain, was dismissed for a two-ball duck, thanks to an incredible catch by Pakistan’s Aamir Jamal. The incident occurred in the second over of England’s first innings when Naseem Shah delivered a short ball that Pope tried to pull. However, the pace and bounce caught him off guard, and the ball flew off the top edge towards midwicket.

Aamir Jamal, stationed at midwicket, leapt into the air and took a one-handed blinder, leaving Pope stunned and England reeling early in their response. This catch gave Pakistan a perfect start with their bowling.

Pakistan’s Impressive First Innings Performance

Earlier in the match, Pakistan’s batsmen dominated after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Although they lost opener Saim Ayub for just 4 runs, Shan Masood (151) and Abdullah Shafique (102) both scored centuries, putting Pakistan in a commanding position. Babar Azam, however, struggled again, managing only 30 runs.

On Day 2, Agha Salman smashed an unbeaten 104, while Saud Shakeel contributed a solid 82. After 149 overs, Pakistan was bowled out for 556. Jack Leach was the standout bowler for England, taking 3 wickets, while debutant Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson grabbed two each.

At the time of writing, England are at 19 for 1 in 6 overs, with Zak Crawley and Joe Root at the crease.
