Seems like nothing is going right with Bangladesh cricket at the moment, and every problem revolves around their star all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan. He is under the limelight at the moment, but not in good sense as the Bangladesh great has decided to skip the Test Vs South Africa due to security reasons.

Shakib facing threats from students group

Shakib Al Hasan was included in the Bangladesh Test squad for the series against South Africa, however, a group of students calling themselves "Mirpur Chhatro Janata" threatened to protest if Shakib decided to land in Dhaka for the Test series.

To put into context, a massive student protest took place in Bangladesh, a couple of months ago, which led to the resignation of the ruling party led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On August 5, Sheikh Hasina fled the country and found a new interim government was formed. Shakib Al Hasan was also a part of her political party and faces backlash from the students of Bangladesh.

Leaders and supporters of the Sheikh Hasina group faced numerous legal cases, and also had FIR registered against them, including Shakib Al Hasan.

Fans protest against BCB as Test series in jeopardy

A couple of days ago, Shakib decided to skip the Test series due to the threats he had received, and this decision didn't go well with his supporters who have started to protest against the BCB.

“I am a big fan of Shakib Al Hasan. You can not exclude Shakib from the Bangladesh team, because he is one of the best cricketers in the world. I do not believe that he did any crime as he was abroad during the movement. Why he was barred from coming home”, said a fan wearing a Bangladesh jersey while hundreds of his supporters shouted “Shakib Shakib Shakib”.

“Why will Shakib say goodbye to cricket from Kanpur (India)? He will say goodbye from Mirpur as he wishes”, said another supporter.

“Without Shakib, the Bangladesh team is immobile”, said a fan.

The Test series against South Africa begins on October 21, and BCB have announced Hasan Murad as Shakib's replacement in the side.
