India could be without their captain, Rohit Sharma, for at least one Test in their upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar series in Australia. Per PTI, Rohit has reportedly informed the BCCI that he may have to skip the first Test scheduled at Perth on November 22 due to a personal matter.

India is set to tour Australia for an exciting five-game Test series in November. The Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will witness two giant cricketing nations battle it out in the toughest format of the game. However, with still over a month to go for the highly anticipated series, the India camp is expected to face a notable omission.

India to miss Rohit Sharma in Border-Gavaskar Trophy?

According to a report from PTI, Indian captain Rohit Sharma could make himself unavailable for at least one of the first two Tests against Australia, citing unavoidable personal reasons. A BCCI source further suggests that Rohit has already informed the apex body about his possible unavailability for part of the tour.

“There isn’t any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series,” a BCCI source told PTI.

While the situation remains unclear, there’s a chance Rohit could play all five Tests if the unknown personal issue is resolved before the series begins. Meanwhile, in case Rohit misses a match, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will be in Australia leading India A, could be called as his replacement.

However, as far as captaincy is concerned, no vice-captain has been officially designated yet for the Test format, with Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill seen as potential candidates for a temporary role.

Rohit Sharma likely to welcome second child

The sudden reports of Rohit Sharma’s unannounced absence from the Border Gavaskar Trophy are now being linked to earlier rumours about Rohit expecting his second child with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. The couple were spotted at an event a few weeks back where Ritika appeared to be pregnant. Notably, Rohit and Ritika previously welcomed a baby girl, Samaira Sharma, in 2018.
