Day 4 of the first Test between England and Pakistan belonged to Joe Root and Harry Brook as the duo stitched the highest partnership for England in Test cricket. Notably, Brook and Root stitched a 454-run stand for the 4th wicket.

Harry Brook scored his maiden Triple hundred and amassed 317 (322), which featured 29 fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Joe Root too missed out on a triple century and returned to the pavilion with a score of 262 (375), which included 17 boundaries.

Harry Brook Hails Joe Root As Greatest English Batter

After stumps on day 4, former England skipper turned commentator Nasser Hussain interviewed Joe Root and Brook, where the two star batters heaped massive praise on each other.

Hussain asked Root about Brook's potential to which Root replied that he knew Harry would make it big in cricket and become one of the finest batters for the Three Lions.

Brook returned the gratitude and remarked Root as the greatest England batter of all time. It is worth noting that Joe recently became the first Englishman to reach 20000 international runs. Brook continued and remarked that he learns from Root and also cited an example of how easily Joe guides balls towards third man area.

Joe Root Closes Gap On Sachin Tendulkar

After the 250-run knock, Root took his run tally to 12664 in 147 Test matches. He is only 3257 runs behind Sachin Tendulkar to become the leading run-getter in Test cricket. Age is on Root's side as the right-hand batter is just 33 years old and averages 51 in Test cricket.

Several cricket pundits and players including Ben Stokes have backed Root to surpass Sachin in Test run tally going forward.
