In a bid to secure his place in the India Test squad, explosive batter, Suryakumar Yadav has informed Mumbai Cricket Association of his desire to play in Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra on October 18.

Representing Mumbai, Suryakumar is available for Mumbai's second round matches in the Ranji Trophy and is eager to play in the game's longest format, as reported by Express Sports. The India Test team will travel to Australia for a 5-match series, and Suryakumar is perhaps hopeful of a call-up as he prepares himself for the upcoming challenges.

“He has informed the MCA that he will be part of the Ranji Trophy team which will play against Maharashtra,” a source in the MCA confirmed to Express Sports.

The squad for the Border-Gavaskar series will be picked during the same period as the second round matches of Ranji Trophy, and it seems Suryakumar is eager to play for India in the whites.

Suryakumar is currently leading the Indian team in the T20I series against Bangladesh, which the Men in Blue are leading, 2-0.

Suryakumar's only Test match for India ended on sour note

Known as the master of T20 cricket, and rightly so, Suryakumar Yadav was selected in the India squad for the Test series against Australia in early 2023. He made his debut against the Aussies in the Nagpur Test, and it is fair to say that game didn't go according to Surya's plans.

On a dusty wicket, tailor-made for the spinners, he could only score 8 runs in the first innings, and didn't get to bat in the second innings as India defeated Australia by an innings and 132 runs. That was the last time the India T20I skipper featured in Test matches.

Since then, he has carved a name for himself in the T20 format, even becoming the permanent leader of the side.
