The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) opened the doors of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to the media for an in-depth look at its grand renovation project, which is setting new standards for cricket venues in Pakistan. Spearheaded by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and closely overseen by Director of Infrastructure Qazi Jawwad Ahmad, the sweeping upgrades are designed to meet ICC's strict requirements, aiming to make the stadium one of the most advanced venues in the region.

With a projected December 31 completion date, this transformation promises a premium experience for both players and fans.

Gaddafi Stadium Undergoes Major Upgrade for Champions Trophy 2025

One of the most iconic venues of Pakistan cricket is getting a facelift like no other, with plans to bring spectators closer to the field by moving the enclosures forward by 20 feet.

This closer vantage point aims to give fans a front-row experience, making them feel a part of every run, wicket, and boundary. The new seating capacity is set to leap from 21,500 to over 34,000, accommodating an even larger crowd for the Champions Trophy scheduled for early 2025.

New imported seating, high-resolution replay screens, and a revamped sound system will provide a match-day atmosphere that fans have only dreamed of until now.

Five-Star Pavillion Facilities

Under Naqvi’s stewardship, the stadium’s pavilion is also undergoing a complete overhaul. From upgraded dressing rooms to luxurious lounges for officials and dignitaries, these five-star facilities will offer top-tier comfort and convenience for teams, umpires, and VIP guests alike.

"Under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Gaddafi Stadium is being elevated into a world-class venue, enhancing the fan experience and setting new standards for cricket in Pakistan," remarked Naqvi, confident in PCB’s strides toward world-class infrastructure.

Lighting Up the Night with LED Floodlights

The iconic floodlight towers of Gaddafi Stadium are also set for a futuristic upgrade. Boasting the latest in LED technology, these lights promise an illuminating experience that will make every night game visible from afar, enriching the visual quality of live broadcasts.

In line with PCB's vision to uplift other stadiums across Pakistan, the current floodlight towers, screens, and even some seating are being repurposed for other cricket venues, spreading the benefits of Gaddafi Stadium’s transformation far and wide.

Countdown to Champions Trophy Amid Hosting Speculations

As PCB pushes forward with its ambitious project, questions linger around Pakistan’s hosting rights. While Pakistan remains committed to hosting the tournament, tensions with neighbouring India have cast doubts over the arrangement.

There is speculation about a hybrid hosting model similar to the Asia Cup 2023. However, Pakistan holds the reins and is resolute in its preparations.
