Harmanpreet Kaur, the India Women's captain on Tuesday climbed four spots to be joint 12th in the ICC Women’s T20 batting rankings. Off-spinner Shreyanka Patil surged nine places to be 29th in the bowlers' rankings. Harmanpreet now shares the 12th position with Sri Lanka's Harshitha Samarawickrama, boasting 610 rating points.

Harmanpreet rise in rankings, Mandhana slips

Interestingly, the last few months have not been smooth for the India captain, as she has failed to deliver the goods. Barring a gritty 29* against Pakistan in T20 World Cup, and a 66 against UAE in Women's Asia Cup, Harmanpreet hasn't been at her imperial best.

She failed with the bat against New Zealand in India's T20 World Cup opener, but bounced back to secure India's win against arch-rivals, Pakistan. The last few months have been tough for Harman, not only as a batter, but as a leader as well. She took India to the finals of the Asia Cup, but the team lost against a strong Sri Lankan side.

India were expected to do well against New Zealand in their T20 World Cup opener, but she couldn't deliver and was dismissed for 15.

In contrast, Smriti Mandhana slipped one place to fifth, and Jemimah Rodrigues dropped two spots to 20th. Veteran offspinner Deepti Sharma fell two places to fourth, while seamer Renuka Singh Thakur maintained her position at fifth. The rankings have been released in the midst of the T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Harmanpreet's India need miracle to advance to semis

India lost against New Zealand by a whopping 58-run margin, and now finds themselves in a precarious situation. Despite winning against Pakistan on Sunday, India has a net run-rate in minus. They need to win their next two matches to have a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup.

They next play against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, followed by a mouth-watering clash against Australia. However, even if India win their two matches, it won't guarantee them a place in the next round, as their fate will depend on other results.
