On Tuesday, Mahmudullah, the veteran Bangladesh batter, announced his retirement from T20Is. The middle order batter has confirmed his retirement from the format after the India series and the next couple of T20Is against India would be his last two appearances in the format for his country.

The all-rounder announced his decision in the pre-match press conference ahead of the second T20I against Bangladesh. He also mentioned that he had already decided to retire from the format after the series and expressed a desire to continue playing ODIs for Bangladesh with the Champions Trophy coming up next year.

"Yes, I'm retiring from T20Is after the last game of this series. It was pre-decided. It's the right time to move on from this format and concentrate on ODI."

Mahmudullah - A Pillar Of Bangladesh Cricket

Mahmudullah has played 129 T20Is for Bangladesh so far and has scored 2395 runs with an average of 23.48. He has eight fifties in the format and has even led Bangladesh in the format. He previously retired from Test cricket in 2021 after 50 Tests while he has played 232 ODIs for Bangladesh so far where he has scored 5386 runs.

The right-handed batter has donned the role of a finisher quite well in the last few years and has been the pillar of Bangladesh's batting line-up for more than a decade. Mahmudullah also has 40 wickets in T20Is and recently did well in the T20 World Cup 2024 as well. In the first T20I of the ongoing series against Bangaldesh, Mahmudullah could muster only one run, and would have to play a big role in the upcoming matches to help his team win the series in his final ride in the shortest format.
