ENG vs IND | Virat Kohli set to miss second ODI due to groin injury: Reports

Former India skipper Virat Kohli, who missed the first ODI against England on Tuesday due to a groin injury, is likely to be unavailable for the second ODI as well, reported news agency ANI.

According to the reports, Kohli is yet to recover from the groin injury that he sustained after the final T20I at Trent Bridge and is likely to miss the second ODI, set to be played on Thursday at Lord's.

Notably, Shreyas Iyer replaced the veteran batter in the series opener at the Kennington Oval after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement to confirm the development.

“Virat Kohli and Arshdeep Singh were not considered for selection for the first ODI against England. Virat has a mild groin strain while Arshdeep has a right abdominal strain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring them," BCCI wrote on Twitter ahead of the first ODI.

Rohit Sharma & Co got off to a flying start to the three-match ODI series as they outsmarted the Three Lions in all three departments in the first ODI to register a thumping 10-wicket victory.

India star speedster Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc in London as he ran through the batting line-up of England to register career-best bowling figures in ODIs. Bumrah finished with 6/19, bowling England out for 110, their lowest total against India in ODIs.

Mohammed Shami also bagged three wickets while Prasidh Krishna got one to his credit. Coming to chase, the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan hunted down the target in just 18.4 overs.

While India skipper Rohit Sharma smashed 76* off just 58 deliveries, Shikhar Dhawan played the perfect second fiddle as he amassed 31* runs off 54 balls.

Bumrah hopeful of Kohli’s recovery on time

Following this remarkable victory over England, Bumrah was asked about Kohli's injury status and whether the former India captain would be available for the remaining ODIs.

"I don't know the status of his injury because I did not play the last game (3rd T20I). Hopefully, he recovers, but I really don't know the status of his injury," Bumrah said in the post-match press conference.

Team India, who currently leads the series 1-0 will be eyeing a series win when they lock horns with England in the second ODI, scheduled to be played on Thursday, July 14.
