Essex batters mounted a 174-run first-innings lead over the visiting Gloucestershire on Day 2. Overnight batsmen Alastair Cook compiled 145 while captain Tom Westley was dismissed for 90.
The visitors lost as many as six wickets in their second innings while facing the remaining 39 overs of the day. They reached 140-6 and will resume Day 3 with a trail of 34 runs.

Hampshire vs Warwickshire
Finishing the opening day at 42-3, the Hampshire batsmen turned the tables with a dominant outing with the bat on Day 2. They declared their innings at 370 with a healthy lead of 153 runs. Ian Holland (99) and Liam Dawson (92) missed out on centuries while wicketkeeper Ben Brown cracked a rapid 72.
Chasing a huge first-innings deficit, Warwickshire batters reached 11 without losing a wicket by stumps.

Kent vs Northamptonshire
Hosts Kent batted throughout the day, reaching 287-6 in 96 overs. The Sam Billings-led side now trail the visiting Northamptonshire by just 16 runs.
Among Kent batsmen, Joe Denly, Jack Leaning and captain Jordan Cox all contributed with 63 each. Cox will resume his side’s innings on Day 3 with wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings (24*) at the other end.

Lancashire vs Somerset
Somerset batsmen added another 149 runs on Day 2, after ending the opening day at 297-5. Lewis Goldsworthy top-scored in the innings with a crafty 130 and was assisted by James Rew with his 70.
In response, hosts Lancashire brought the deficit down to 282 runs as they reached 164 without a wicket at stumps. Both openers, Luke Wells (99*) and Keaton Jennings (61*), are approaching their respective centuries as they aim to overtake Somerset’s first innings total.
