ENG vs IND | India need to learn from past: Nasser Hussain on top order woes against left-arm seam

India registered a thumping victory over England in the third ODI last night, claiming the three-match series by 2-1. However, there still remains a major cause of worry for the Indian side.

India’s trouble against left-armers

Although the visitors' middle order helped them chase 260, the Indian top order was exploited by Reece Topley to the core.

Topley troubled and eventually dismissed India's three stalwarts, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, exposing their perennial weakness against the left-arm seamers.

In the post-match show on the Sony, the former England captain Nasser Hussain opined that India's insane top order has continuously faltered against the left-arm seamers due to their lack of courage while facing them.

Hussain further advised India's top three to change their timid game plan, as they have an excellent middle order to follow.

"India are a very strong team, but they need to learn from what happened in the past. In the last T20 World Cup in the UAE, they were a bit timid with the bat, so they need to stop being that," Hussain said.

"When you have Pandya and Pant in the middle order and then Jadeja that rope to follow, you don't need to be timid at the top," he added.

Hussain predicted that Virat Kohli would return to his best after spending some time off the field. He also urged the men in blue to treat the ICC events like the bilaterals to end their trophy drought in the marquee tournaments.

"Their batting, Virat Kohli, will be fine. Once he is out of the break, he will be absolutely fine. They are positioned nicely. They just got to play ICC tournaments just like they play bilateral tournaments," the 54-year-old concluded.
