Buttler will send a clear and strong message to players: Eoin Morgan

Former England skipper Eoin Morgan believes Jos Buttler will surely send a strong message to the players after a comprehensive loss in the 1st ODI against India.

On July 12, England managed to post just 110 on the board, with key players like Jason Roy, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes getting dismissed for a duck. Captain Buttler was the top contributor with 30 runs.

In response, the Indian team chased down the score within 19 overs and took a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series.

Morgan thinks Buttler will take this as an opportunity to make the entire squad aware of their shortcomings and areas of improvement and lay out a future roadmap.

"I know what this feels like," Morgan told Sky Sports. "It's not nice - you focus inwards, not outwards.

"But, having had the experience both playing and leading previously that Jos has had, he will see this as an opportunity in that changing room to reiterate a very clear and strong message about where they are going and what they're doing.

"A clear-cut message from your leader at times like this, and for your senior players to embody it, is crucial."

Injuries should be treated as opportunities for youngsters: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri was asked whether injuries to bowlers have hampered England's chances in white-ball cricket.

"In my tenure as a coach, I have treated injuries as opportunities to identify young players. They are thrown into the deep end, and one who will survive and come through will stand you in good stead," said Shastri.

Bowlers like Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, and Chris Woakes are injured, while Adil Rashid is not available for this series.

England and India will face off in the second fixture of the 50-0vers series on July 14 at Lord's.
