Former Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting has taken RCB fans down memory lane, but not in a way they would have liked. The ex-SRH player shared a fan-made Instagram reel highlighting his match-winning performance in the 2016 IPL final, and it included a cheeky dig at RCB.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been among the very rare unlucky teams never to win an IPL title. For the past 18 years, the franchise has been striving to end the jinx but hasn't succeeded yet.
In 2016, though, RCB got close to their dreams only to see SRH defeat them in the final in a thrilling turn of events.
Ben Cutting Relishes 2016 IPL Final Nostalgia
In that 2016 finale, Ben Cutting had a match-winning performance, as SRH won their maiden IPL trophy. His all-round show earned him the Man of the Match award, and RCB fans have never forgotten how their team’s title hopes slipped away.
Recently, Cutting reposted the reel that showed his explosive 39 off 15 balls and crucial wickets of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul in the final.
The video also had a meme-style message: “RCB – We finally win our first IPL trophy. Meanwhile, Ben Cutting – Hold my beer,” poking fun at RCB’s still elusive title dreams.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the 2016 final has sparked reactions. A few weeks ago, Cutting’s wife, Erin Holland, revealed that RCB fans still spam her and Ben on social media about that match.
Can RCB Break The Trophy Jinx In 2025?
RCB fans have something to cheer about in IPL 2025. The team has got off to a good start this year, winning 4 of their opening 6 matches. Led by new skipper Rajat Patidar, RCB looks more balanced this year.
Their bowling, which was a big weakness earlier, has improved with the inclusion of veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. If they could find a way to win home games, RCB really is a playoff force to be reckoned with.
