On October 6, India’s young stars Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy made their debut in the first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior, where they were handed their debut caps.

The two players had an impressive debut. Batting at number four, Nitish Reddy scored an unbeaten 16 runs, while Mayank Yadav took one wicket in his four overs, finishing with an economy rate of 5.25. Both had a memorable debut night, but there are concerns for the IPL franchises they play for. Previously, they were uncapped players, but now they are capped, which affects their retention status.

Why Mayank Yadav's Debut A Concern For LSG?

According to the new IPL rules updated by the IPL Governing Council on September 29, each franchise can have a maximum of 6 retentions or RTMs, with up to five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped players.

Mayank Yadav, who has been in excellent form since the IPL 2024, grabbed attention with his scorching pace while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. His fastest delivery was clocked at 156.7 km/h against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 season.

In total, he played four IPL matches, taking seven wickets at an average of 12.14, with best figures of 3/14. Now that he’s a capped player, the franchise will need to offer at least INR 11 crores to retain him, compared to the INR 20 lakhs he was bought for in the 2022 mega auction.

It’s mandatory for each franchise to retain at least one uncapped player, leaving Lucknow Super Giants with one possible option for retention.

Suitable Uncapped Player For LSG: Ayush Badoni

Ayush Badoni has been part of LSG since 2022, having been bought for INR 20 lakhs during the TATA IPL 2022 auction. Though he lacks extensive experience, Badoni has shown promise and is eager to learn from the top players.

Last season, Badoni played several crucial innings for LSG, though the team missed the playoffs. He scored 235 runs in four innings, with a highest score of 55* and two fifties, at an impressive strike rate of 137.43. Badoni also excelled in the Delhi Premier League 2024, where he captained the South Delhi Superstarz and amassed 522 runs in 9 innings, including a stunning 165 off 55 balls.

Given Mayank Yadav’s newly capped status and Badoni’s strong performances as an uncapped player, it’s likely that LSG will choose to retain Badoni.
