On Friday, October 4, India women kickstarted their Women's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign as they faced New Zealand in their tournament opener. It was an embarrassing start as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side suffered a 58-run defeat.
New Zealand, batting first, put 160 runs on the board. In reply, India tumbled for just 102 runs, with every senior member of the team failing with the bat. Thus, tough calls are expected to be taken as the Women in Blue next face arch-nemesis Pakistan on October 6 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Despite the defeat, India are unlikely to make major changes as they played with the strong possible XI. However, the team can opt for one change and bring in experienced Radha Yadav, who can outfox the Pakistani batters with her off-spin as India need to play extra spinners because of the slowish nature of Dubai surfaced seen so far.
