In an encouraging development for India Women, their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has regained fitness before the upcoming T20 World Cup encounter against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Notably, Harmanpreet was retired hurt due to discomfort in her neck during India Women's high-voltage group-stage match against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Considering how she walked off the field, uncertainties raised over Harmanpreet's participation in the all-important match against Sri Lanka. However, her deputy Smriti Mandhana gave a positive update regarding her fitness, confirming that she would lead the Indian team in the must-win affair.

"She (Harman) is doing fine and she will be fine for tomorrow," Mandhana told reporters on the eve of the game.

However, according to the southpaw, ace Indian all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has yet to recover from her injury and the management will take a final call on her availability for the Sri Lanka game on Wednesday morning.

"Pooja, I think the medical team is still working on her. So, the update will come only tomorrow during the match. But yeah, I don't think I can say anything at the moment," Smriti added.

Mandhana Highlights Tough Batting Conditions Amid India's Topsy-Turvy Run

Although India Women registered a six-wicket victory against Pakistan, they took 18.5 overs to chase a paltry 106-run target, surprising fans and experts with their timid batting. However, Mandhana defended the Indian batting unit, citing Dubai's challenging conditions and the match situation as the reasons behind such an approach.

"It (run rate) definitely was last match, but as I said, the conditions are a lot different to what you expect as a batter so you are probably thinking to get that run rate high and also you firstly you have to win the match first that's the first priority for us," she concluded.
