Australia Women's captain Alyssa Healy failed to convert her start into a significant score, as New Zealand Women's premier fast bowler Rosemary Mair deceived her with a brilliant slow ball in the ongoing T20 World Cup match in Sharjah. Opening the batting, Healy struck a quick-fire 20-ball 26 before Mair got her prized scalp to draw the first blood for New Zealand.
The incident occurred during the sixth over of Australia Women's innings when the White Ferns were searching for the first wicket. Rosemary Mair, who bowled an exceptional spell against India, came to their rescue, dismissing Healy for 26 runs.
As Healy shifted gears to stun New Zealand with her stroke play, skipper Sophie Devine brought Mair back into the attack to bowl the final over of the powerplay. The right-arm speedster had a torrid start to the over, with the Australian skipper dispatching her first ball to the fence for four runs.
However, she varied her pace beautifully, making Alyssa Healy fall into her trap. From over the wicket, Mair bowled a slow ball, which drew Healy early onto the shot. As the swashbuckling right-hander played a lofted shot, the ball went high up in the air, with Georgia Plimmer taking a simple catch inside the circle.
Australia Off To A Flier Vs New Zealand
Riding on Healy's brisk cameo, Australia Women have got a fabulous start to their innings against New Zealand. After the captain's departure, veteran all-rounder Ellyse Perry joined the previous game's hero Beth Mooney in the middle. At the time of writing, Australia Women were 53 for one, with Mooney and Perry batting on 20* and 3*, respectively.
