Super Over Drama! When Was The Last Time An IPL Match Ended In A Tie

When a T20 game ends in a tie, it is broken via a super over. In the latest development, the 33rd game between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals have went to a super over.

Notably, the Royals won the toss ahead of the game and asked the Capitals to bat first in the match. Axar Patel and his men posted a total of 188 Runs at the end of the 20 overs. In the chase, the Royals started well, however, the match boiled down to a stage where the Royals were restricted at 188/4.

In the chase, the Royals batted first and scored only 11 runs before they lost both their wickets. The Capitals chased down the target with two balls remaining in the over. 

As the match went to the super over, here is a look at the last time when this happened in IPL - 

Last Super Over In IPL

It has been four years that a match has ended in a tie in the Indian Premier League. The last time this happened was in the 20th match of the IPL 2021. The match was between the Delhi Capitals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai.

The Capitals batted first in that game. The batting of the team was led by Prithvi Shaw, who scored 53 runs off 39 deliveries. His knock led the foundation for the Capitals to post 159/4 at the end of their 20 overs.

In the chase, Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow led the foundation for the Sunrisers. Kane Williamson scored a steady half-century but is was not enough for the Sunrisers to achieve a win. 

In the super over, the Sunrisers batted first and scored seven runs in the super over. In the chase, the game went to the last ball but the Capitals were able to keep their nerves and win the game.

Both the teams scored 159 runs in that game at the end of their 20 overs. However, the Delhi Capitals managed to win the match in the Super Over.

As it stands, the Capitals have played the last two super overs in IPL and have won both of them.
