Gurjapneet Singh had a debut to remember in Tamil Nadu's Ranji Trophy clash against Saurashtra. On Day 3 of the match, held at the Sri Ramakrishna College ground, the left-arm pacer’s stunning spell (9-5-7-4) put Tamil Nadu in a dominant position. His efforts dismantled Saurashtra’s batting order, earning his team a commanding lead. Gurjapneet’s performance wasn’t just about the numbers—he even dismissed Indian star Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck, underlining his potential.

Before his Ranji debut, Gurjapneet had a unique experience—bowling to Virat Kohli in the Team India nets before the India vs Bangladesh Test series. Recalling the moment in an interview with The Indian Express, Gurjapneet described the intensity Kohli brought to every session.

“After I bowled him, I looked at him and didn’t dare to look at him again. He was very, very angry. But I realised, he was angry with himself more than anything. And after a straight drive, he again looked at me and smiled,” Gurjapneet Singh said.

Gurjapneet revealed the crucial advice he received from Virat Kohli during the net session.

“He told me, when there is no movement, change the angle and try bowling around the wicket. Because with that angle, even if you manage to get slight movement, it will end up troubling most batsmen,” Gurjapneet recalled. This insight stayed with him, giving him a tactical edge for his Ranji debut.

Tamil Nadu's Victory Sealed in Style

On Day 4, Gurjapneet continued his form, finishing the match with impressive figures of 6/22. His efforts helped Tamil Nadu bowl Saurashtra out for just 35/5 in their second innings, securing a win by an innings and 70 runs. Heavy rain did cause some delays, but the result was never in doubt, thanks to Gurjapneet’s brilliant bowling.
