The recently concluded home series between India and Bangladesh further solidified the grit and excellence of young talents like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mayank Yadav. As a result of their brilliant showcase, India's newly announced squad for the upcoming India vs. New Zealand Test series included the names of these young guns as travelling reserves.

It also included the names of Harshit Rana, who is yet to make his debut for the Men in Blue, along with Prasidh Krishna. With the first Test slated to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, from 16 October onwards, the pre-match press conference took place, and like always, numerous questions were put forward to the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma.

When asked about the prospects of pace sensation Mayank Yadav and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy on the Test side, he opened up. He expressed how, despite limited experience, the Indian team is focused on creating bench strength and said:

“I understand they have not played that much. We want to create bench strength. If we want to fast track someone, we want to fast track them. If someone gets injured we want them to step in. Nice to have them around, have a chat and see how they see test cricket. Its important to try and build them gradually. Trying to monitor them and what they can offer,” he added.

Young Talents To Debut Soon?

This situation opens the door for potential debuts among the young players, especially if any existing team members face injury issues. With Mohammed Shami's absence, these newcomers may secure valuable opportunities to showcase their talent.

As India prepares for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, integrating fresh and dynamic players could be beneficial. Embracing youthful energy in the squad not only enhances performance but also fosters a spirit of innovation, therefore, we could get to see players like Mayank, Nitish, Harshit get an opportunity to feature against the formidable Australia side.
