Peshawar Zalmi's skipper Babar Azam has been advised to relinquish captaincy during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. After suffering two defeats in two games, Azam has been under the scanner of several former players and fans.
Sohaib Maqsood Advises Babar Azam To Give Up Captaincy
Talking on his YouTube channel, Pakistani batter Sohaib Maqsood has advised Pakistani ace batter Babar Azam to give up his captaincy in lieu of his poor performances with the bat. It is worth noting that Babar has been in poor form so far, as he has scored a duck and one run in two matches where Zalmi have endured tough defeats in both games.
Maqsood, who was blunt in his approach, mentioned that the captaincy pressure is taking a toll on Babar's batting, who, according to him, is not a natural leader, as he does not have strong captaincy skills.
Adding to this, Maqsood further added that more than the captaincy, Zalmi requires Babar's batting ability since they have been struggling badly with the bat, as in both the games, they were unable to score big.
While in the game against Quetta Gladiators, they were bowled out for a paltry 136 after conceding 216. In the second game against Islamabad United, they were knocked over for 141 while chasing 244.
"Babar smiles on the field, pretending he doesn’t care, but the pressure is visible. If captaincy isn’t going well, it automatically creates pressure on performance,"
Speaking on his discipline and hard work, Maqsood complimented the former Pakistani skipper. He mentioned that getting him out in practice was an extremely tough task. However, nowadays, it's not like that, as Babar often loses his wicket at least two or three times in the net sessions.
"Six to eight months ago, getting him out in practice was tough, now, he gets out two or three times in sessions,"
Moreover, Sohaib then requested Babar to stop trying to prove a point and instead put his emphasis on his natural abilities with the bat, as he can be a valuable asset for any side he plays for.
"You’re Pakistan’s biggest cricket star—you don’t need to prove anything. Play your natural game, the way you’ve played for the last eight years. Practice hard, regain your form, and trust your class—you’re Zalmi’s backbone."
