Indian fast bowler Anshul Kamboj had a mixed bag of an opening day in Test cricket on debut. Tasked to open the bowling for Team India alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Kamboj picked up the huge wicket of English opener Ben Duckett for 94.

However, the 24-year-old leaked 35 runs in his first six overs, and eventually finished the day with figures of 1-48 in 10 overs by stumps. As England seized complete control over India at the end of Day 2, Kamboj has vowed for a stronger comeback for his team in the remainder of the match.

Debutant Anshul Kamboj Vows Stronger Comeback

While speaking on JioHotstar at the end of Day 2 of India’s Old Trafford Test against England, debutant Anshul Kamboj expressed his happiness in picking up his maiden international wicket. However, the Haryana fast bowler also added that he will be aiming to improve his bowling from Day 3 onwards as he has leaked runs at nearly five-an-over so far. He said:

“I felt good after picking up my maiden wicket in international cricket. I was focused on hitting the right areas — that was my plan from the start. Some deliveries landed well, some didn't. Honestly, I'm still not fully satisfied with my bowling. I'll look to improve and do better tomorrow," Kamboj was quoted as saying by Sports Tak

Anshul Kamboj also added that he backed his strengths in his third spell on Day 2. He added that he and other Indian bowlers will try to restrict boundaries in the remainder of the innings by bowling in good areas.

“I tried to put in more effort during my first two spells. In the third spell, I focused on backing my strengths and sticking to my areas. Tomorrow, we'll look to bowl in good areas again and try to dismiss them as quickly as possible. The key will be to restrict boundaries because they seem more focused on hitting fours rather than taking singles.”

Anshul Kamboj was included in India’s playing XI for the fourth Test of the series against England as a replacement for injured Akash Deep.

Nonetheless, England reached 225-2 in just 46 overs at the end of Day 2. With Ollie Pope and Joe Root at the crease, the hosts find themselves another 133 runs away from India’s 358.
