Ravi Shastri, former Indian cricket star and ex-head coach of Team India, is known for speaking his mind. In a recent podcast appearance, he shocked a few former England players by revealing just how much money Indian cricket legends like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar actually make.
During a chat on the ‘Stick to Cricket’ podcast hosted by former England captain Michael Vaughan, Shastri was asked: "How much do Indian cricket stars really earn?"
Shastri responded without hesitation:"They earn a lot. A lot through endorsements, for sure and upwards of 100 crores."
When Vaughan asked what ₹100 crore equals in pounds, Shastri quickly said: “That’s around £10 million.” The former England cricketers were visibly shocked by the number.
MS Dhoni, Kohli And Sachin Did 15–20 Ads In A Day
Shastri went on to explain how busy the top Indian cricketers are due to their popularity and advertising commitments.
"Someone like an M.S or a Virat or Sachin and his pomp. They would do over 15-20 ads. And it's per day. There is no time. You could easily do more because of the amount cricket being played. So you know they'll do an ad for year and give us a day," Shastri revealed.
India’s obsession with cricket has made its players some of the richest athletes globally. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is also one of the wealthiest sports bodies in the world.
According to 2025 data from Cricket Panda, legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of the world’s richest cricketers. His estimated net worth is $170 million. His fortune isn’t just from playing cricket but also from high-profile endorsements with brands like MRF, Adidas, and Pepsi, as well as smart business investments like co-owning the Kerala Blasters football team in the Indian Super League.
Right behind him is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with a net worth of about $125 million, followed by Virat Kohli, who stands at around $92 million.
