It was an early end of day's play due to bad light on the third day of the ongoing first Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Sylhet. Bangladesh finished the day at 194 for 4 in their second innings, holding a lead of 112 runs.
With two full days remaining, the hosts will aim to extend their advantage and set a challenging target for the visitors. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto remains unbeaten on 60, with Jaker Ali alongside him at the other end.
Mominul Says 300 Target Will Do It
Speaking after the day’s play, Mominul Haque emphasized the need to have a good start with the bat on Wednesday morning and build a strong total.
“If the target is 300, then good and if it's not, then 270 or 280 will be also fine but 300 will take us to a good position," Mominul said to the media after Day 3 action.
It has overall been a good outing for Zimbabwe, who took a significant lead in the first innings and have already claimed four crucial wickets in Bangladesh’s second innings. Craig Ervine and his men will be eager to carry that momentum into the fourth day, aiming to strike early in the first session.
However, Mominul Haque remains confident in his team's ability to reach the desired target. He further highlighted the depth in Bangladesh's batting line-up, expressing faith in the remaining batters’ ability to dig in and bat long, setting up a strong position heading into the final innings of the match.
"We are confident about reaching that target because after Shanto, Jaker, and Miraz, we have Taijul and Hasan who can also contribute with the bat. That gives us added confidence," Mominul added.
Earlier on day three, after losing more than a session to relentless rain, Bangladesh resumed their innings at 57 for 1 but managed to reach 194 for 4 by stumps. Despite a solid knock from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who remains unbeaten, the hosts lost key wickets at regular intervals. Zimbabwe will be the happier side heading into day four, having already secured an 82-run first-innings lead and now eyeing a replicate the same performance.
