IPL 2025 kicked off with a bold move from Rajasthan Royals, handing captaincy to Riyan Parag for the first three games in Sanju Samson’s absence. But that move sparked buzz as the franchise named Riyan over Nitish Rana and Jaiswal.

With time, Jaiswal has been a star and Nitish Rana already has captaincy experience. As the move already sparked buzz, Rana swiftly shut down the buzz with the perfect response.

Rana Shuts Down The Captaincy Buzz

Rajasthan Royals stirred the pot by naming Riyan Parag captain for their first three IPL 2025 matches, sidelining strong contenders like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana. As Jaiswal is an ace batter, Rana already has IPL captaincy experience as he lead KKR in 2023 in Shreyas Iyer’s absence. That move by the franchise sparked buzz.

Ahead of their next clash against the Delhi Capitals, Nitish Rana came up with an answer to shut down the buzz. He explained why Riyan Parag’s appointment as RR’s skipper was the right call, offering a strong justification that silenced the buzz.

“When I was made captain of KKR, I had been with the team for 6-7 years. That helped a lot because I understood the team culture and environment. Now, with RR, I think Riyan knows the team's setup better than me. And I think it was absolutely the right decision by the management.” Rana said.

“If they had asked me, of course, I would've happily accepted the captaincy. But what matters most is what's right for the team. And I think they made the correct call.” he added.

Royals Are Eyeing Stronger Comeback

After having an impressive season in the last edition, Rajasthan Royals are struggling with their form in the ongoing season. After starting the season with a defeat under Riyan’s captaincy, their latest heartbreak came after facing a massive loss in their last clash against the Royals Challengers Bengaluru.

Facing them on home soil, their batting woes hit hard in the first innings and bowlers failed to dominate and faced a 9-wicket defeat. The defeat pushed them down to 8th on the points table. With Delhi Capitals up next, the team will be desperate for a fiery comeback to get their campaign back on track.
