The ongoing season of the IPL 2025 is turning into a thriller show with every passing match. A special ‘bat checking’ has grabbed attention among some unmissable encounters. In almost every match, umpires are seen checking batters’ bats with a special tool.

In the last encounter between the Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, umpires were seen checking bats, and the process took a dramatic turn. As umpires conducted the inspection, the real shocker came when some of the KKR stars' bats didn’t pass the test.

How Do The KKR Stars Fail the Bat Test?

As the IPL comes with something new in every season, the ‘Gauge Test’ is the newest thing in the tournament. In the ongoing season, umpires were seen inspecting batters’ bats with a triangle-shaped new weapon. According to the rules, a legal bat must stay within strict limits of  2.68 inches in depth, 4.33 inches in width, a 1.61-inch edge, and a lower non-hitting side no thicker than 0.20 inches.

As the rule is being followed religiously in every match, in the last match, it took a dramatic turn. Coming to bat in the second innings, Sunil Narine's bat was checked at the boundary line along with Angkrish Raghuvanshi. But things took a twist when the fourth umpire slid the gauge over Narine’s bat, and it got stuck at the thickest part. The star all-rounder failed the test.

Andre Russell and Anrich Nortje also found themselves on the failed list. While coming to bat at the 11th over, Russell also faced the same fate as he failed in the test, too. But the surprises kept coming. Anrich Nortje, too, failed the test, prompting Rahmanullah Gurbaz to rush in with a replacement bat.

KKR Let Slip An Almost-Win Match

After a mighty victory over the Chennai Super Kings, the Kolkata Knight Riders entered into last clash against the Punjab Kings with high confidence. But soon the confidence turned into their biggest disappointment. With a remarkable bowling dominance, they bundled up Punjab’s innings in just 111 runs.

After a shaky start, they find momentum depending on Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s partnership, but Chahal’s brilliance removes the hope. Within 10-13th over, the Knights lost 5 consecutive wickets. As the PBKS bowlers doubled up the dominance, the got all out in just 95 runs and faced a 16-run defeat.
