India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has set high expectations for Sarfaraz Khan, calling him a "domestic beast" and hoping he can replicate his stellar form in international cricket by scoring a triple hundred in the ongoing Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Sarfaraz played a key role in India's fightback on Day 3, scoring 70* and continuing strongly on Day 4 with an unbeaten 125.

After India were bowled out for just 46 in their first innings, Sarfaraz Khan led the recovery in the second innings, pushing India to 344/3 by lunch break on Day 4.  With a 135-run partnership with Virat Kohli on Day 3, Khan joined Rishabh Pant to build another 100+ runs partnership for the fourth wicket.

Sarfaraz Khan reminded of golden opportunity to be a hero

Now, with the trail reduced to just 12 runs, Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nayar insists Sarfaraz Khan convert the maiden Test hundred into a big score, possibly a triple ton, a milestone not necessarily out of Khan's reach.

Nayar expressed his confidence in Sarfaraz Khan, noting his reputation for scoring big double and triple hundred in domestic cricket, and hopes to see him bring that same form into this Test.

"We associate Sarfaraz Khan with hundreds, double, hundreds and triple hundreds. So I'm hoping at the end of the day we see the domestic Sarfaraz Khan being the beast in international cricket and get that triple hundred," Nayar said in a BCCI video.

Notably, Abhishek Nayar also praised Virat Kohli for his crucial 70-run knock before getting out on the final ball of Day 3, acknowledging the importance of his contribution to India's inspiring comeback.

"It's always good to get Virat Kohli scoring runs again. Unfortunate to get out, you know, towards the last ball of the end of day's play. But we are still positioned to try and get a big score and hopefully push this game to the final day," he added.

India placed in a strong position at lunch break on Day 4

Sarfaraz Khan was joined by injured Rishabh Pant on Day 4 of the first Test between India and New Zealand. The duo looked in sublime touch and built a 100+ runs partnership for the fourth wicket. After surviving a mix up while running between the wickets, Sarfaraz scored a blazing ton whereas Pant also scored a half century. Rain interruption led to early lunch break as India are seated comfortably at 344/3, with a 12-run trail still left to cover.
