If you look at the history of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is the name whose name pops out of everyone's mind.

However, Brian Lara, one of his good friends off the field who was also one of the greatest players who ever graced the game, believes there was a better individual than both of them in their days.

The man about whom Lara talked about in his new book 'Lara: The England Chronicles' was Carl Hooper. Hooper, one of West Indies' prolific all-rounders, played 102 Tests and 227 ODIs for the country. He had a decent record as well, tallying 5762 in red-ball cricket and 5761 runs in the limited overs, while also picking 114 and 193 wickets, respectively.

Lara meant Carl would have been a better batsman than Tendulkar if he fulfilled his potential.

Brian Lara's Highest Praise On Carl Hooper

"Carl was easily one of the best players I've ever seen. I would say that not even Tendulkar and myself would come close to that talent," Lara wrote in his new book - 'Lara: The England Chronicles.'

In addition, Lara also highlighted how flamboyant Kooper had been when he was the captain of the West Indies.

"Separate Carl's career from playing to captaining, and his numbers are very different. As a captain, he averaged near to 50, so he enjoyed the responsibility. It's sad that only as a captain did he fulfill his true potential," he added.

Two of the finest of the game, Lara and Tendulkar were together lately on a golf course.
