Lucknow Super Giants pacer Shardul Thakur didn’t mince his words to take Indian Premier League 2025 commentators to task for being overtly critical of bowlers’ performances. Speaking for bowlers of all the teams, Thakur pointed out how high-scoring T20s have become a norm nowadays.
As a result, to expect the bowlers to always contain batters is too much to ask. T20 cricket, in the general run of things, has become a batter-friendly format. It was due to the same reason that Gujarat Titans pacer Kagiso Rabada had suggested to “rename the sport to batting” last month.
Shardul Thakur Takes Commentators To The Cleaners
Been a challenge for the batters on the back of being the highest wicket-taker among pacers this season, Thakur is now taking the commentators to the cleaners. In a direct unabashed attack, the right-arm bowler highlighted how Super Giants have successfully defended two totals thus far.
“Like you said, criticism will always be there, especially from commentators. It’s easy to sit in a studio and comment on someone’s bowling, but they don’t see the real picture out there on the ground,” Thakur told the reporters during the post-match press conference in Lucknow on Saturday.
Shardul Thakur, who also commented on his fellow teammates bowling well this season in spite of starting in the absence of three premier pacers, made a fair point. One of the five IPL teams to have successfully defended totals twice this year, Lucknow’s bowlers have picked the second-highest number of wickets (21) in the second innings.
While critics can mention how they’ve leaked over 10 runs while bowling the highest number of overs (75.5) in the second innings, winning four out of six matches put LSG in a position of strength against both their opponents and critics.
