Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has ridiculed the Punjab Kings' fielding unit for their costly dropped catches of Virat Kohli, occurring when the batter was yet to score and at 10 runs.

Kohli capitalized on the two chances, particularly the one at zero, to craft a brilliant 47-ball 92 innings. This innings laid the foundation for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's commanding 60-run victory over the Punjab Kings in a crucial match on May 9.

During the first innings, PBKS fielders put down five catches, which proved to be detrimental to their cause. As a consequence of these lapses, RCB amassed a formidable total of 241 runs, a target that Punjab Kings ultimately failed to chase down, leading to their elimination from IPL 2024.

"Kohli opened and it seemed like the Punjab players ate paranthas with a lot of butter and then forgot to wash their hands. Who drops so many catches? Everyone was dropping catches - easy, easy catches. As the saying goes, if you drop so many catches, you drop the match,"  Aakash Chopra said on YouTube.

Punjab could have easily sent Kohli to the dressing room cheaply but the crowd at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala saw the wrath of Kohli.

Kohli is in red hot form and after getting chances early in his innings, he played out a sensational match-winning knock of 92 which paved the way for RCB's win in the picturesque Dharamsala.

Like Chopra, PBKS assistant coach Brad Haddin also highlighted the importance of dropped catches in determining the outcome of the match.

As a result of their defeat, Punjab Kings have been eliminated from the tournament.
