Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra has launched a scathing critique against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul, accusing him of consistently holding back his game.

Rahul's slow-paced innings came under fire after LSG's humiliating loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad.

In the all-important match on Wednesday, May 8 at the Uppal stadium, Rahul managed to score only 29 runs from 33 deliveries as LSG set SRH a target of 166 runs in Hyderabad. The opener faced significant backlash and intense scrutiny for his turtle-paced Knock

Following Rahul's subdued innings, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma forged an unbeaten 167-run partnership for the opening wicket in just 9.4 overs, propelling the hosts to a resounding victory. Theiir partnership showed it wasn't a tough wicket to bat on.

Reflecting on LSG's batting display on his YouTube channel, Aakash criticized their sluggish pace, particularly highlighting Rahul and Krunal Pandya's failure to accelerate the scoring rate after Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis' dismissals.

“KL Rahul scored 29 runs off 33 balls. He always stops himself. He hit a six in front of the wickets off Pat Cummins' bowling but after that, the wagon didn't move at all, and then when he tried to hit once, he was caught in the deep. So nothing happened there as well,"  said Aakash Chopra on YouTube.

The defeat marked LSG's sixth loss in the 12th match of IPL 2024, dealing a severe blow to their net run-rate.

As a result, they slipped below the Delhi Capitals in the standings, now occupying the sixth position. Their chances of LSG looks slim as they need to win the remaining games and other results to go in their favour
