Captain Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi had a poor start to their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 campaign. They suffered a massive 80-run defeat against Quetta Gladiators on Saturday in Rawalpindi.
Quetta Gladiators posted a formidable total of 216 runs, thanks to a magnificent start from the openers which set the stage for the middle order to dominate in the later half of the innings. In reply, Zalmi could not get going in their chase and got bowled out for 136 runs.
Babar himself faltered early in the very first over against Mohammad Amir, who beat him with a fuller delivery from a little grip off the surface as the right-hander only managed to tuck it in the air straight to the short cover fielder to get out without opening his score.
Notably, it was Babar’s ninth duck in PSL, placing him third among batters with the most ducks in tournament history. On this occasion let's go through the other few names who have registered the most number of ducks in PSL till date.
5. Shaheen Afridi - 7 ducks
Shaheen Afridi, another key figure in Pakistan cricket currently, also features in the top five players with most ducks in PSL history. Known for his bowling heroics for Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen has occasionally contributed with the bat as well. However, in the process, he has accumulated 7 ducks so far in a total of 36 times he has come out to bat in this tournament.
4. Kamran Akmal - 8 ducks
Kamran Akmal ranks fourth on the list for the most ducks in PSL history. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter was a consistent presence for Peshawar Zalmi throughout his entire PSL career and registered eight ducks across 74 innings. Known for his aggressive batting at the top of the order, Kamran also had his share of low scores, but remains one of the tournament’s most impactful players.
3. Babar Azam - 9 ducks
Babar Azam, who is currently the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, is a surprising name on this list, sitting at the third place with 9 ducks after getting out without disturbing the scores against Quetta on Saturday. The elegant right-hander has been a batting icon for Pakistan cricket and the PSL for nearly a decade now. Despite being the tournament’s highest run-scorer, even a player of his caliber has faced rare slumps amidst his consistent brilliance on the field.
2. Wahab Riaz - 10 ducks
Wahab Riaz is a prominent figure in Pakistan cricket, especially known for his bowling brilliance white-ball cricket during his time. The left-arm pacer has enjoyed his time bowling in the PSL where he still holds the all-time record for most wickets in the tournament’s history. However, he didn't have his moment of magic with the bat as he ranks second on the list of most ducks in PSL history, with 10 ducks in 88 matches for Peshawar Zalmi.
