Brief Scores: Bangladesh: 256-8 (50 overs) [Litton Das: 66 (82), Tanzid Hasan: 51 (43); Ravindra Jadeja 2/38 (10), Jasprit Bumrah 2/41 (10)] lost to India: 261-3 (41.3 overs) [Virat Kohli: 103* (97), Shubman Gill: 53 (55); Mehidy Hasan Miraz 2/47 (10), Hasan Mahmud 1/65 (8)] by seven wickets.

Team India overwhelmed Bangladesh through a clinical run-chase performance in Pune. The win granted the ‘Men in Blue’ their fourth in succession as they maintain their unbeaten run in the ongoing 2023 World Cup.

Das, Hasan run-fest gets disrupted by Bumrah, Jadeja

Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das backed up interim skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s call at the toss. Making full use of pristine batting conditions upfront, the two cricketers registered scintillating half-centuries, with Das top-scoring in the innings through his attacking 66.

Both shared a 93-run opening stand inside 15 overs before Hasan failed to read Kuldeep Yadav at 51. Captain Shanto and number four Mehidy Hasan Miraz failed to add much to the score as their sudden dismissals reduced Bangladesh to 137-4, thus squandering away their sublime opening partnership.

Mushfiqur Rahim added crucial runs to take his side past 200, while Mahmudullah produced a rapid 46 to surge his side past the 250-run mark. Bangladesh eventually finished their 50 overs at a competitive 256-8, just a notch better than their last week’s World Cup 2023 batting effort.

Among Indian bowlers, new-ball pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj both snared two wickets each while spin merchant Ravindra Jadeja unfurled the spell of the innings with 2-38 from his 10 overs.

Virat Kohli’s unexpected ton knocks down BAN

In-form opener Rohit Sharma slapped a swift 48 in his 88-run stand with Shubman Gill, who himself produced 53 to register his first half-century of the 2023 World Cup. After Sharma miscued one off Hasan Mahmud, his partner Gill shared another 44 runs with number three Virat Kohli.

Arriving to the crease at 88 and sustaining his presence until the very end, Kohli defied Mehidy Hasan Miraz and others to secure yet another ODI ton. KL Rahul also knocked the ball on his way to a run-a-ball 34* as the two guided Team India past the finishing line with more than eight overs to spare.
