The ongoing SMAT 2024 clash between Bengal and Chandigarh has set the stage on fire, and so has Mohammad Shami, who showcased excellence with both the bat and ball. The match, currently underway at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, saw Shami bowl magic in the very first over and dismiss Arslan Khan.

Arslan was forced to walk back for a golden duck as Shami provided his team with the first breakthrough. In the 1st over, Shami bowled a fuller delivery at the stumps. Arslan stepped out of the crease, staying away from the line of the ball, and tried to go over cover from the first ball.

An audacious shot to play against Shami and Arslan regretted it terribly as he paid a hefty price for it. Shakir Habib Gandhi, stationed at the third man region, ran to the back of the circle and did an excellent dive at the last moment to take a surprise.

Shami's Quickfire Knock

Mohammed Shami played a crucial role with the bat for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, scoring an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls. Coming in at No. 10, Shami launched an explosive late surge, hitting two sixes and a boundary in the final over. His fearless hitting, including a towering six off Sandeep Sharma, helped Bengal reach 159/9 in their 20 overs against Chandigarh.

When did Shami last play a match for India?

Mohd. Shami was last seen in action at the 2023 ODI World Cup Final where India crossed blades with Australia because he needed to have an operation for his ankle injury. In the game against New Zealand that would end his forced hiatus, Shami himself contracted swelling of the knee on the eve of returning to play.
