Mohammed Shami has been an important part of the Indian ODI team. He has time and again proven himself as an impactful and effective bowler in the 50 overs format. Even during the 2023 ODI World Cup, Shami emerged as one of the biggest match-winners in the 'Blue Jersey'. 

Recently Shami has come up with a brilliant show with the bat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. He was seen smashing Sandeep Sharma for 19 runs in a over. Mohammed Shami: IPL Stats

Mohammed Shami can be considered a legend of the IPL. He has played 110 matches for different franchises and has taken 127 wickets in them. In these games, Shami has mantained an economy of 8.44 while picking up wickets nearly every 19 deliveries.

Sandeep Sharma: IPL Stats

Sandeep Sharma has also been a veteran of the IPL. In 127 matches, Sharma has picked up 137 wickets. During these games, Sharma has an economy of 7.89 and has picked up a wicket nearly every 21 deliveries.

Mohammed Shami vs Sandeep Sharma: In Powerplays

Mohammed Shami has bowled 223 overs in the powerplay of the IPL. He has conceded 1,674 runs in these overs with an economy of 7.51 and has picked up 46 wickets. If we look at the strike rate, then Shami has taken a wicket every 29 deliveries.

Sandeep Sharma has bowled 273 overs in the powerplay of IPL. In these overs, he has taken 61 wickets while conceding runs at an economy of just 7 runs per over. The veteran medium pacer has picked up a wicket every 27 deliveries.  

As per as effectivity and impact in the powerplays of IPL is considered then, we can say that Sandeep Sharma has been the better bowler.

Mohammed Shami vs Sandeep Sharma: In Middle Overs

Mohammed Shami has bowled 88 overs in the middle overs of IPL. In these overs, Shami has picked up 23 wickets while giving away runs at an economy of 8.39. In the middle-overs, the Indian pacer has picked up a wicket every 23 deliveries. 

Sandeep Sharma has so far bowled 113 overs in the middle overs of IPL. In these overs, Sharma has taken 31 wickets while having an economy of 7.96. The deliveries per wicket for Shandeep Sharma in the middle overs is around 22. 

So even when we see the effectivity and the impact of the two bowlers in the middle overs of the IPL, Sandeep Sharma is ahead of Mohammed Shami.

Mohammed Shami vs Sandeep Sharma: In Death Overs

Mohammed Shami has bowled about 94 overs in the death phase in IPL. In these overs, he has picked up 58 wickets with an economy of 10.71. Notably, in the death phase, Shami has picked up a wicket every 10 deliveries. 

If we come to Sandeep Sharma, he is generally considered a death over specialist in IPL. The veteran medium pacer has picked up 47 wickets in the death phase of an IPL with an economy of 10.50. If we look at his wicket taking efficiency, then Sandeep gets wicket in nearly every 2 overs.

While Sandeep Sharma has been more economical in the death overs, one can say that Shami has been more efficient when it comes to picking up wickets.

Conclusion

The overall study reveals that while Mohammed Shami has been an impact bowler, in IPL Sandeep Sharma has overshadowed him. When it comes to economy and effectivity of a bowler the veteran Indian medium-pacer is ahead of Shami.
