In the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup match between India women and Sri Lanka women, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side did just what the doctor ordered and put a good total on the board courtesy of brilliant innings from Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Mandhana and Verma provided the perfect platform for India as the duo stitched a 98-run stand for the first wicket. Mandhana stitched a half-century, while Verma missed out on one by just seven runs. Talking about the Indian skipper, she also smashed a 27-ball fifty, which featured eight fours and a solitary six to help India put 172/3 on the board, which is also the highest total in this edition of Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

There was just one moment in the game when Indian players were worried when they lost two wickets on two deliveries and lost both openers.

India Lose Mandhana and Shafali On Two Consecutive Deliveries

On the 4th ball of the 13th over, Mandhana got run out after she pointed a shot towards cover and tried to sneak a quick single. However, the fielder acted swiftly, and Chamari Athapaththu made no mistake while dislodging the bails.

India's tension grew on the subsequent delivery when Shafali Verma played a casual wicket and gave an easy catch to Gunaratne.

Shafali Verma Completes 2000 T20I Runs

In the same match, Verma scripted a personal milestone as she completed 2000 T20I runs. It is worth noting that Verma is the youngest cricketer to reach this milestone, as she is just 20 years old. Further, she also became the second-fastest cricketer to reach this milestone after Mithali Raj.  At the time of writing this article, Sri Lanka are 6/3.
