Mohammad Rizwan, a key player for Pakistan, was expected to stay longer at the crease and build a strong score in the second Test against England in Multan. After a tough loss in the first Test, Pakistan hoped for a solid batting performance, but Rizwan’s early dismissal on Day 2 added pressure on the home side.

Rizwan resumed the innings on Day 2 alongside Agha Salman, with Pakistan at 259/5. Salman was on 5*, while Rizwan was batting steadily on 37*. Pakistan were looking to add crucial runs to their total. However, in the 93rd over of the innings, England’s Brydon Carse made a crucial breakthrough.

Brydon Carse Strikes Early On Day 2

Carse bowled a brilliant delivery that changed the game. It was a good-length ball angling towards the middle and leg stump before subtly moving away from the batter. Rizwan, pinned inside his crease, couldn’t adjust and ended up edging the ball to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. Smith took a sharp, tumbling catch to his right, dismissing Rizwan for 41 off 97 balls. This early blow gave England the upper hand at the start of Day 2.

Pakistan On Day 1 Against England

Pakistan have had a shaky start on Day 1 after winning the toss and opting to bat. Jack Leach made an early impact, dismissing Abdullah Shafique and captain Shan Masood cheaply, leaving Pakistan struggling at 19/2. However, debutant Kamran Ghulam and Saim Ayub stitched together a 149-run partnership, rescuing Pakistan from early trouble.

Ayub looked set for a century but misjudged a shot, chipping the ball to short mid-off, where Ben Stokes took a simple catch. Ghulam, despite battling cramps, showcased his grit and scored a valuable century. However, in the final session, Ghulam lost his wicket while trying to attack the off-spinner. Saud Shakeel also fell to Brydon Carse, edging one to the keeper.

By the end of Day 1, Pakistan was at 259/5, with Rizwan (37*) and Salman (5*) surviving the last few overs.

At the time of writing, Pakistan are at 292 for 6 in 99 overs.
