Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Virat Kohli, once again, mastered a near-perfect chase for India last evening in their crucial encounter against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Dharamsala.

Chasing 274, Kohli dropped the anchor at one end, while other Indian batters failed to convert starts, putting the side in quite a precarious situation.

However, the 34-year-old stood up to the challenge and struck a breathtaking 95, ensuring India overcame their 20-year drought against the Black Caps in World Cup matches, having last won in 2003.

This was the eighth time (six in ODIs and two in Tests) that Kohli has been dismissed in the nervous 90s.

Kohli, who narrowly missed equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49th One-Day International (ODI) runs by five runs, did manage to surpass the latter in another Indian record.

Kohli, now has the most fifty+ scores for India in wins in international cricket (137), surpassing Tendulkar's tally of 136.

During his knock, the former Indian captain also became the first batter to score 3,000 white-ball runs in ICC matches, which include World Cup, T20 WC, and Champions Trophy.

Out of 3,054, Kohli has slammed 1,384 in WCs, 529 in T20 WCs, and 1,141 in CT, respectively. The former India captain is currently leading the batting charts in the World Cup 2023, having amassed 354 runs in five matches, just ahead of Rohit Sharma (311).
