The inevitable happened, but just a little late as the Chennai Super Kings made a bold call ahead of their IPL 2025 clash Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad. The MS Dhoni led side decided to drop the out of form batter, Rachin Ravindra for this crucial encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

In his place, South African star, Dewald Brevis is set to make his debut for CSK. The decision to replace Ravindra was a shocking call but here are two key reasons why CSK decided to make it official.

1) Strike rate of just 128!

CSK as a unit have hit just 5 sixes in the power-play and all five of them came in the last match, courtesy of Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed. This is one major reason why CSK batters have struggled for runs and Ravindra has a part to play in it.

He strikes at just 128 and as an opener, this is too low. While openers of other teams are striking at around 150, Ravindra's slow progress makes things difficult for CSK middle order side.

2) No match-winning innings since opening match

In CSK's tournament opener Vs MI, Ravindra scored a crucial fifty and since then, he has been woefully out of touch. CSK gave him a longer rope, but he couldn't justify his selection. In 8 matches, he has 191 runs, with a strike-rate of 128 and has only a solitary fifty-plus score.

Hence, the team management decided to bring in an aggressive Dewald Brevis who can clear the ground with ease.
