Shreyas Iyer Fails In Irani Trophy As Saransh Jain Outfoxes Him With A Magic Delivery

Shreyas Iyer's recent struggles continued in the ongoing Irani Cup 2024 clash between Mumbai and the Rest of India (ROI) in Lucknow, where he failed to capitalise on the strong platform laid by Prithvi Shaw's explosive half-century at the top in Mumbai's second innings.

Shreyas Iyer Fails To Perform And Falls Cheaply

Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal came in the 28th over, during a crucial phase in Mumbai's innings. After starting cautiously, he was undone by a delivery that perfectly exploited the variable nature of the pitch.

Saransh Jain, in his second spell, bowled a delivery that pitched well outside the off-stump, only to sharply turn back in towards Iyer. Adding to the challenge, the ball stayed low, forcing Iyer to make a hurried attempt at a cut shot.

Unfortunately for him, the ball snuck under his bat as he rocked back to play it, striking the leg stump. It was a classic example of spin bowling at its best, aided by rough patches and footmarks on the pitch.

Jain's ability to turn the ball sharply into Iyer, combined with the low bounce, made it nearly unplayable. Iyer, who looked to cut the ball with intent, left his stumps exposed and was completely deceived by the delivery.

This dismissal is not just a single event, but a symbol of Shreyas Iyer's ongoing battle with form. The year 2024 has been a series of uphill climbs for the right-hander, starting with an injury that forced him to miss the crucial Test series against England.

Following that, Iyer was left out of India’s central contract list, reportedly due to his delayed return to domestic cricket.

He had a similar missed opportunity in the Duleep Trophy earlier this year, and with each failure, the pressure mounts for him to make a strong comeback before India’s high-stakes series against New Zealand and Australia.

Abhimanyu Easwaran's Displayed Class With Significant Contribution

In the first innings of Rest of India, Abhimanyu Easwaran's displayed outstanding batting performance and propelled the team total to a formidable total of 416 runs in response to Mumbai's first-innings score of 537. Despite narrowly missing out on a double century, Easwaran's impressive knock of 191 runs earned him widespread acclaim for his exceptional display at the crease.
